Shesa History

acred Heart College, was founded in 1960, at the country’s independence as a catholic, boarding school for boys committed to academic excellence. This 100-acre campus is located in Mankon, Bamenda, in the Northwest Province of Cameroon

Reverend Father Mulligan of the Mill Hill missionary order started the first class with thirty young men. In 1965, these pioneers graduated, just as another religious order, the Marist Brothers were taking over the administration of the school.

The outstanding academic achievements of the students in national and international examinations have earned the Sacred Heart College worldwide recognition. Sacred Heart has opened its doors to students worldwide including The United States, India, Nigeria, Central African Republic, and Sudan just to name a few. Alumni from the college have to universities in Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Ex-students from Sacred Heart College hold prominent positions in Cameroon and corporations in other African, European and North American Countries.

In 1981, a handful of former students gathered in a small apartment in Houston Texas to create the first chapter of what would become Sacred Heart Ex-Students Association (SHESA) USA. Later in May 1998, Shesans in the United States met in Washington, DC to launch SHESA America; a non-profit organization. This organization now has over 900 members with concentrations in Boston, MA., Washington, DC., Houston & Dallas, TX., New York, NY., Chicago, IL, Detroit MI, Wilmington, DE., Madison, WI., Atlanta, GA., Minneapolis, MN., AND Los Angeles, CA.

A major objective of Shesa America is to create a forum that will bring together North America based Alumni and promote ties with the alma mater, Sacred Heart College. It has established two funds: the scholarship Fund, and the Infrastructure and Technology Fund as mechanisms for providing assistance to the school and its students
